The Finger Lakes are a pattern of lakes in the west-central section of Upstate New York in the United States. The lakes originated as a series of northward-flowing streams. Many creeks and streams, interspersed by numerous waterfalls, traverse steep gorges to feed the lakes with water from rain and snowmelt.
