The snow monkeys (Japanese macaques) of "Hell's Valley" (or Jigokudani) in Japan, near Nagano, are famous for their human-like winter behavior of coming down from the mountains every morning to enjoy the warmth of the onsen (hot springs). While winters are hard, they are made easier by the warmth of the hot springs. Their behavior and social interactions were great fun to observe, and it watching their expressions and clear enjoyment of the hot water, it was easy to anthropomorphize. The babies, as with any species, are particularly engaging - active, curious, and bumblingly agile. I have tried to showcase their personalities and interactions in the images of this series.
